Are our pocket endless pit of gold ?

Recently, a little birdie told me that the cinemas are going to increase the prices of the tickets. Again. There's a little something I'll like to tell the people at the cinemas: WHAT THE $#@% ARE YOU THINKING ?!. Now i'm done with this little outburst I shall proceed to talk about the situation. Humphf.

As you guys probably know (or not if you don't read the papers). But to help those in the dark, I shall enlighten them. In the April 1st issue of the Straits Times, the move by three cinema operators to raise ticket prices in unison is one that could be deemed illegal under a tough new law that takes effect next year three, which form the Cinematograph Film Exhibitors Association (CFEA), announced on Monday that they will raise weekday prices of tickets by 50 cents and weekend prices by $1 from next month. It is illegal to do such a thing when the law is in effect BUT it isn't time yet (law will be effective in 2006).

Doesn't the people at cinema know that they will be indirectly promoting the sale of VCD/DVD or god forbid, pirated VCDs ! I personally will be directly affect as i'm in the line of fire. Sort of, cause I watch movies quite a bit and this will definitely burn a hole in my pocket. Major hole.

I qoute form GV's managing director Kenneth Tan
" From the exhibitors' standpoint, from the rental to constant upgrading, there's a lot done to keep service standards high ... "

My response: What service ?! popcorns are still the same and so are the drinks and screen and chairs. Phfft. What ? you're gonna install aroma diffusiers in the halls ? Double Phftt.

I could have kept going but i'm too mad to type anymore, I shall go make a voodoo doll of each of the MD of each movie company and stick pins in them. Humpf.

FYI: Cathay will not raise prices of tickets. (at least there's still a sane company here.)
